Planning the Perfect London Itinerary: How Many Days is Enough?

How to Build the Perfect London Itinerary Around What You Love

Think of your trip like layers rather than days. Each layer represents a different way to experience the city, from history and architecture to theatre, afternoon tea and neighbourhood charm.

If your focus is iconic London, three days can deliver a powerful snapshot of the city’s history and culture. You’ll see the landmarks that define Britain’s capital. Those are things like Buckingham Palace, the great cathedrals, the views from the Sky Garden or London Eye. It’s the trip where you leave knowing you’ve witnessed the London that fills postcards and film scenes.

Add a fourth or fifth day, though, and something shifts. You stop ticking boxes and start creating memories. You might linger over afternoon tea, browse markets or see a West End theatre performance. Perhaps you want to experience British pub culture. This allows you time to visit the kinds of spots locals love rather than tourist traps.

At five days and more you also can easily add a day trip to Oxford, Cambridge, Windsor and the Warner Bros Studio Tour: The Making of Harry Potter.
